We currently offer club rides on Sunday and Friday, meeting by the bandstand in Chapelfield Gardens. If you are not currently a member and are planning on joining us, please email clubrun@icenivelo.co.uk beforehand so we know to expect you but also so we can contact you if a ride is not going ahead (e.g. such as when a club event is being run).
Sunday Club Ride (All weathers, except ice)
The Sunday ride is the main event in the club’s weekly calendar and will involve a ride to a café usually on or just after half way round the route. Routes will be shared on a Thursday through Garmin Connect, Ridewithgps and Spond so you can have these to hand on the day. If not, plenty of other riders will have these to warn you when a turn is coming.
Friday Frolic (when weather dictates)
Daytime rides for gentlefolk of leisure, these will run in the summer months when dry. A social ride of around 30-35 miles at the conversational pace of 15-16 mph. A good opportunity for nearer destinations than the Sunday routes, opening up some splendid cafe stops, usually with a quick pub stop near the end. Fridays 0930 Chapelfield Gardens, check Facebook for details.
Wednesday Wobble
The wobble is usually run between late March and late October and starts at 6.30pm. The rides will usually average between 15.5mph and 17mph and the group will decide during the ride where to end and this will be an (optional) pub stop which is usually within the city ring road (e.g. Fat Cat) for a drink and “English tapas”.
We have compiled an FAQ section below, to help give you a better idea of what to expect but if you need more information please contact us via clubrun@icenivelo.co.uk

Please contact us at clubrun@icenivelo.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question
If you can ride within a couple of mph of the group average pace then you will benefit from the draft effect from other riders which reduces drag, in turn this will mean that your average speed should be higher on a group ride compared to a solo ride, especially if there is a headwind.
We can’t speak for other clubs, but we are a friendly group with no egos. You will see a wide variety of bikes and kit on a club ride (older bikes with downtube shifters, gravel bikes, steel bikes and carbon bikes) but the one thing we all have in common is our love of cycling, sharing our experience and having a ride with like minded people.
Other than yourself and a roadworthy bike and helmet, we would suggest as a minimum you bring a spare innertube, tyre levers and a pump. In winter, you will make friends quicker if you have mudguards fitted and will need to be dressed for the weather conditions. There will be plenty of assistance on hand if you have any bike issues.
We operate a no-drop policy with our Sunday steady and Wednesday Wobble rides. If you find the pace too hard, you won’t be left to fend for yourself.
Not immediately, you can try before you buy and come on a couple of rides before you make a decision. If you do decide to join, then the current membership subscription is £20 a year.
Our standard rule is for riders to be at least 16 years old to join the club run. However, if you are under 16 and interested in riding with us, please get in touch so we can investigate making it possible for you to ride.
Simply email clubrun@icenivelo.co.uk and let us know you want to join us for a ride and we will confirm the details to you (route, start time etc.). Due to the number of riders we have on a Sunday, please avoid turning up if you have not contacted us first as last minute arrivals can be harder to place in groups if we are splitting.
On your first ride, the ride leader will introduce themselves and depending on your experience of club rides will go through the key things to know including safety, calls and hand signals (don’t worry if you forget anything as others will help you). They will also aim to ride alongside you for at least the first couple of miles to help you settle into the group. After that, you will be able to rotate and get a chance to chat with other riders in the group. There is no pressure to do a turn on the front on the steady groups, so don’t worry about others taking the strain.
Andrew who rides with the club and runs his own Youtube channel featured one of our winter rides back in early 2022 - why not have a watch for a flavour of what you might expect? N.B. Lovely sunny conditions are also often available!
